Sheffield is the primary water polo outlet in the steel city of South Yorkshire. We became our own club in 2005, but have operated as a water polo hub for many years as an umbrella body. The Sheffield Dolphins club of old provided the bedrock for all male and female players that exist today in this area. “The Dolphins” were founder members of the UK men’s National Water Polo League.
Sheffield Dolphins (men) and Sheffield Sharks (women) came together in an effort to sustain and promote water polo as a complete unit, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, under the aegis of Sheffield City Council and Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. The City of Sheffield Water Polo Club has three club nights per week and has recently developed a Mini Polo Junior Academy. The club boasts two women’s squads, one men’s and a combined junior squad.
